Shache County is located at the northern foot of the Kunlun Mountains and the southern edge of the Pamir Plateau, covering a total area of 8,955.65 square kilometers. It is primarily an agricultural county and a key focus area for national poverty alleviation and development efforts. The county has 1.6 million mu (approximately 106,666 hectares) of arable land and encompasses 29 townships, 491 administrative villages, and 25 communities, with a population of about 850,000 people.
Shache is a crucial transportation hub along the ancient Silk Road and a strategic military outpost. It is also known as the birthplace of the intangible cultural heritage of Uyghur music classics known as "Twelve Mukams". The county is rich in solar-thermal resources, fertile soil, and mineral resources. It is renowned for its high-quality agricultural products such as grains, cotton, pistachios, apricots, and walnuts, and is the largest production base for pistachios in China, known as the "Hometown of Chinese Pistachios".
